About the Group
Chocolate in your Pocket is a Decatur, IL based alternative pop/rock band.
The members include Alex Erickson (vocals), Cole Burdick (lead guitar), Hunter Sphar (bass), and Trace Davidson (drums). The four met at Millikin University through the commercial music program and became a tight power-quad within weeks of writing their first album, an unreleased project called The Summer EP. Quickly gaining popularity on campus and in the surrounding cities of central Illinois, the band has played venues ranging from college house parties and free shows on the quad of Millikin to concert venues including the Black Sheep in Springfield, Doulos in Decatur and Bremen Cafe in Milwaukee. Chocolate in your Pocket has played free benefits for charities and philanthropy events as well as paid performances for bars and organizations. The band plans on touring a portion of the midwest over their fall break from school hitting cities including Milwaukee, Chicago, Champaign, and more. They also appeared on the WCIA news in Champaign, IL on September 19th.
Frontman, Erickson, credits artists like Prince, the Killers, Led Zeppelin, and contemporary bands such as Catfish and th e Bottlemen and the 1975 as sources of his musical inspiration. Raised on classic rock and alternative pop, Erickson values heavy grooves and holds his favorite lyricists, Brandon Flowers and Frank Ocean, as the gold standard in his writing.Guitarist, Burdick, cites Lake Street Dive, Daniel Caesar, and Pink Floyd as his three biggest influences when it comes to writing for Chocolate in your Pocket. He says, “They all use non-traditional chords in their pop music giving all of them unique sounds. Nobody sounds like them, and nobody sounds like us”.
